Battle Honours of Lincoln Welland Regiment—Battle of the Seine
The Lincoln Welland Regiment of St. Catharines Ontario has stood as a proud infantry reserve regiment since 1794. Over the course of Lincoln Welland’s existence, it has received 26 battle honours for the sacrifice and efforts made in battle. One the battle honours which Lincoln Welland proudly served for was the battle of the Seine in 1944. In this battle, the regiment assisted the allied forces in destroying the German offensive and their debilitating their combat power. This objective was apart of “Operation Overlord”, an assault that would cut off German resistance in Western Europe.
The Seine is a river located in France running through Paris. Canada’s position in battle of the Seine took place on the South-East side of the North Sea. The Canadians would push the offensive through Scheldt, completing their objective at Rotterdam.
