The Supreme Court is the highest court in jurisdiction and the highest court/leadership of the Judicial Branch of the U.S Federal Government. It is known as the court of last resort because any of its rulings can't be appealed. In the United States there are many small supreme courts with the states. The Supreme Court consists of nine individuals. The nine individuals include a Chief of Justice of the United States along with eight Associate Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States. The nine individuals are nominated by the President of the United States, which is currently George W. Bush. The chief of Justice of the United States along with the associate Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States, when nominated are appointed to serve for life. They can be removed from their jobs through impeachment or resignation. The last justice to be impeached was Samuel Chase.
