Jesus and Mohammed lived nearly 600 years apart from one another. Both are thought to have been messengers of God in their respective religions. Muslims, citing John 14:16, 26 from the Christian New Testament, believe that Jesus prophesied the coming of Muhammad when he promised the Paraclete would come to assist humanity after him (Fisher, 2005, p.372).
Jesus was born nearly two thousand eight years ago as a Jew in a Roman-occupied Palestine (Fisher, 2005, p.284). The common thought is that He was born in Bethlehem from a virgin named Mary. Mary conceived Jesus by the Holy Spirit. Mary and Joseph made a trip to Bethlehem to satisfy a ruling by the Romans that everyone should register for a census in their ancestral city. They made the journey and found no room at the inn and stayed in a stable where Jesus was born. Nothing is known about Jesus when he lived in Nazareth until he was twelve years old.
