Reflections on the First Amendment
America today would not be the same without the United States Constitution. When the Founders created the Constitution they could not foresee what life would be in the 20th century and on. Taking that into consideration, the Founders devised the Constitution in such a way that it can be amended and changed. Today, included within the constitution are 27 amendments, the first 10 being the Bill of Rights. All amendments are designed to protect the rights and privileges of citizens'. Throughout time, people have been battling in the court systems to find the true meaning and limitations of their rights. The most notable cases touch on the 1st Amendment. The 1st Amendment guarantees freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, and freedom to petition. Three memorable cases to the 1st Amendment are Schenck v. United States, Hustler Magazine v. Falwell, and Wisconsin v. Yoder.
