“You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”
In Christianity, God is almighty and the holiest of all. It is believed due to God’s holiness, any man who sees God’s face will die because of unworthiness. Therefore, man shall not make idols that resemble anything on earth as a representative of God. In another understanding, this is because Christianity do not based their religion upon simply adoring or worshiping God; Christianity emphasizes on love. Christians believe that it is love, a relationship between a living God and them that makes their love meaningful. By carving an image, it will cause the believers to focus on a dead and empty object.
