Franklin D Roosevelt dies in office, Harry S Truman becomes president- Upon the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, then-Vice-President Harry S. Truman is sworn in as President on April 12, 1945. Truman finished out Roosevelt’s term and ran successfully for re-election in 1948.
United Nations charter signed- While this document is often misconstrued as a constitution it is, in fact, an agreement between states and not a compact among the individual peoples to create a government. It was signed at the United Nations Conference on International Organization in San Francisco California, 1945 by 50 of the 51 original member countries
