The Realism time period took place around 1865 to 1910, which was around the time the country was rebuilding itself from the Civil War. In Samuel Clemens novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, he clearly shows how realism is played out. Individualism was a major characteristic in books written during this time period. It can be seen early on in the book, when Huck and his father leave the town, and live out in the woods away from the civilized world. Also, individualism takes a role when Huck leaves his father's house and goes out on his own. In realism he describes the characters in the story as regular people, and bases their actions on what was going on during pre-civil war time period.
