Economical changes occurred. When the Crown was in debt, many new taxes were placed on the colonists. . A significant act that was passed was the Tea Act of 1773 to aid the British East India Company that was facing bankruptcy. This angered the colonists because they felt that the taxes were unfair and that Britain was taxing the for no other reason than to benefit themselves. This led to the Boston Tea Party which was when the Sons and Daughters of Liberty dressed as Indians and dumped all of the British Tea into the Harbor. Thus, part of the colonist’s plea for independence. Acts such as the Sugar Act of 1764 which placed a British Tax on all imported tea from anyway but Britain was issued. This was beneficial to Britain because they had a surplus of sugar since they had gained all of the sugar islands in the Caribbean in the Treaty of Paris 1763. The colonists became more resentful towards the British.
