“Never Again”
After World War II, the phrase “Never Again” was used in response to the Holocaust. Since then, the world has failed to respond to the genocides in Rwanda, Uganda, and Sudan. The phrase “Never Again” means exactly what it says. The world knew that the war was so bad, and so many people had died, that they would never let it happen again. Many nations reacted to the Holocaust, which is why it was a world war. Britain and France declared war on Germany two days after Hitler invaded Poland. After Hitler invades Russia, and Japan bombs Pearl Harbor, the US enters the war. Many countries entered the war to defend their own country, not really as a reaction of the Holocaust. The United Nations became the official name for the coalition fighting the axis powers in 1942. United Nations agencies were created and operated during the war.
