"In biology and ecology, extinction is the ceasing of existence of a species or group of species. The moment of extinction is generally considered to be the death of the last individual of that species. Extinction is a natural phenomenon; it is estimated that 99.9% of all species that have ever lived are now extinct" (Http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extinction). No species is immortal and extinction goes on all of the time, whether it is in the United States or in a foreign country. The extinction of plant and animal species today is caused by humans. One cannot say that a species would decline by itself if humans had not been around. Unless we can find a way to stop the mass destruction of our forests and the their dwellers, we are at a disadvantage ourselves. This paper will discuss the extinction of species and how cloning/biotechnology will be critical for solving the problems of the future. It will also give a brief history of and the current status of cloning research, the......
