Though I am not fully devoted on fighting against smoking, using cigarettes to be ‘cool', or in this case to feel or try to become cool is not remotely appropriate to the situation. Using items such as cigarettes, alcohol, and other substances to try to become ‘cool' almost does the opposite effect, and degrades the person. So in his attempt to standout he actually failed according to my definition. The spit curls also does not fit my description of a ‘cool' person. Though my thought of spit curls might be wrong, my interpretation of ‘spit curls' is the curls in head hair molded from actual spit.
