Led Zeppelin formed out of the Yardbirds. The Yardbirds had three of Britain's greatest guitarist Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page. The Yardbirds made a name for themselves in London's rapidly exploding R&B circuit. Jimmy Page was the last member in the Yardbirds and the first member in Led Zeppelin. In the Yardbirds final days the band deserted Page with the rights to the song and the responsibility for the upcoming tour.

Jimmy Page now faced with completing the tour alone had to hurry to form a new one. He hired John Paul Johns, Robert Plant, and John Bonham together they formed The New Yardbirds. They fulfilled the concerts and tours left behind by the old Yardbirds. After Keith Moon, drummer with The Who, heard of the new band he suggested, "You'll go over like a lead Zeppelin". The band later changed its name from the New Yardbirds to Led Zeppelin.
