A Sampling Experiment

Aim

To investigate how many daisies, dandilions and rats tails are on the school field.

Method

1. We firstly placed the quadrats onto the school field and we then counted how many of the specific weed their were in that particular area, we collected all of this information in a small table.
2. We repeated this 10 times to have a good overall average of the amount of weeds.
3. We also made sure that we spread the quadrats out over the field to obtain an all round result.
4. Finally we found out the square metres of the field to enable us to work out the average amount of weeds per square metre.

Map of School Feild

Results Table
Square Daisies Dandilions Rats Tails
1 0 5 0
2 1 4 6
3 0 0 0
4 6 6 9
5 7 2 0

Average field population for:
Total square metres of field = 20670

Daisies – Total = 14 (2.8 Per Square metre) So 2.8 x 20670 = 57876

Dandilions – Total = 17 (3.4 Per Square metre) So 3.4 x 20670 = 70278

Rats Tails –......
