Genetically engineered food is all around us but how do we know what food is or isn't genetically engineered? The Grocery Manufactures of America estimates that over 70% of all processed food products in grocery stores contains genetically engineered ingredients, such as Kellogg Corn Flakes, Gardenburgers, and Heinz 2 Baby Food(FDA 2). An even more shocking fact is that over 60% percent of people believe that they have never eaten genetically engineered food. Genetically engineered food should be labeled so that consumers know what they are eating. The first order of business in considering a labeling strategy to define exactly what is to be labeled.
