This compelling story was about a Vietnamese village girl Le Ly, who survived a lifetime
full of suffering and hardships in Vietnam. Taken place during the Vietnam war,
she escaped the violence of the Viet Cong and fled her village for Saigon. When she
fled to Saigon, she became pregnant and disgraced herself. Through stealing and
hustling the American troops, she ends up meeting with a U.S Marine named Steve, got
married and was given the opportunity to come to the great land of America.
What I liked about this movie was that it was a true story. It made us see what the Vietnamese had to go through during and after the war era through a woman’s point of view. Le Ly was lucky to have left Vietnam when she married the U.S Marine. However, it also showed the difficult life she faced living in America adapting to U.S customs and people.
