Reading Reflections
This essay will look at two different literary works and examine how society is reflected in each instance. The first is an adaption from a song to a poem, “This Land Is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie (1912-1967). The second is a work of short fiction, “Everyday Use”, by Alice Walker (b. 1944). The essay in summary will show how the authors of these works were affected by society and how this is reflects on that authors view of society.
In “This Land Is Your Land” the reader can see a sharp contrast in the outlook of the author throughout this song. In the second stanza the author writes “I saw below me that golden valley: this land was made for you and me” (Di Yanni, 2007, p.898). In this stanza he is making a statement about how beautiful this land is and that it “was” made for you......
