Education, the purpose of which is preservation and enhancement of knowledge and the development of character, profoundly influence the development of society in general. Although interests plays a highly role in students' motivation of study, it is unwise to abandon this main purpose and go to meet the individual interests of each students.
To begin with, general education provides basic curriculums and thinking skills that are necessary for any students to go to any realm deeper driven by their own individual interests. No matter what a student's interest is, these curriculums are indispensable for their studies in the near future, or even indispensable for the qualities of their future lives. For instance, arithmetic and logic are necessary for all the nature sciences. Rhetoric and grammar are necessary for all the arts, social sciences and humanities.
