In 1973 the American Supreme court ruled that Americans right to privacy includes the right of a woman to decide whether or not to have children, and the right of a woman and her doctor to make that decision without the states interference (“abortion”). Since this ruling, woman have been able to seek safe and legal abortions by a trained medical staff at various clinics throughout the United States. These clinics not only provide a woman with the right to terminate a pregnancy, but they provide comprehensive education about the procedure, how to prevent pregnancy, and how to receive emotional counseling. Currently Pro-Life and Christian groups want to ban abortion but eliminating these clinics will violate a woman’s personal right to make decisions about her own body. The American Civil Liberties Union defends the Constitution and women’s rights. The
