The contributions of the work of both Herod the Great and Ezra during the intertestamental period had a significant effect on the Jewish community. The works of both men greatly affected the Jewish way of life and the Jewish church.
Herod knew he could have complete control if he had both temporal and spiritual power over the Jewish community, therefore, he greatly desired their approval. The Jews despised Herod because he was only half Jewish, had Hellenistic views and was known for his murderous ways. Herod realized that the Jews were not willing to conform to his religious ways and did a number of works to try and win their approval. Herod brought considerable prosperity to his kingdom.
