How has the family unit changed in the recent years?
People seem to have no time for each other and our lifestyle is getting more and more hectic. Beacause of the stress at work and the constant fear of becoming redundant, people are impatient and on edge most of the time.
With divorce more widespread today than in the past, we must ask ourselves what has brought this change. When people use the word ’family’ they often mean the mother, father and their children. In a general social context, ’the family’ means the nuclear family living n the same house and closely involved in each other’s lives. Society is traditionally based on a nuclear family.
Fifty years ago, the typical family was a husband, a wife and two or three children. The father worked and made decisions abouthow the money he earned was spent. The mother stayed at home to manage the house and look after the children. Children were expected to obey their parents.
