Definition and Purpose
“Acupuncture is a technique of inserting and manipulating filiform needles into points on the body with the aim of relieving pain and for therapeutic purposes” Acupuncture is an Eastern therapy classified by the NCCAM as an Alternative Medicine System. Alternative Medicine Systems include acupuncture, homeopathy and hypnotherapy and it is described as “A group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine.”
