In retrospect to the Di Yanni text (2007), stating that "O’Connor's stories are suggestive of the southern gothic tradition of storytelling in which engaging, violent, and frequently grotesque characters are often treated with colloquial humor" I have to be in total agreement. In Flannery O’Connor’s short story “A Good Man is Hard to Find”, the southern gothic traditions of storytelling remain true. It is a story that I feel teaches many different lessons. The character I most related with during the story was the grandmother. I related so well to her because she reminded me so much of my own grandmother, and the way that the older generation behaved during different situations. There is a politeness; a respect, that is given throughout the story from the grandmother. There is also a knack for getting the family into some trouble. She show’s these mannerisms in the events before and during the scenes prior to her death.
