Lesson Learned: Wisdom from Experience
I was 18 and brand new to the military and life for that matter. I had only graduated from basic training a month before and still had limited privileges in technical school. The only reason we were allowed to leave our dorm was to eat and go to school. We were not allowed to wear regular clothes. Instead, we were forced to wear our physical training gear when we weren’t in uniform. When we got bored, we either watched television or competed to see who had the shiniest floor. The guys in the day room were watching Jerry Springer so I chose the latter.
So there I was, on my hands and knees, listening to the radio, putting on a fresh coat of Johnson’s wax. After a month of this the floor gets to a point that you can literally see your reflection in it. Out of the corner of my eye I saw someone about to walk on my pride and joy with his Air Force issued boots. I stopped him......
