The word ‘Addiction’ is derived from the Latin word ‘addictus’ meaning ‘to devote’. When one suffers from addiction, the individual devotes and dangerously becomes dependent on a substance, object, activity or possibly, a human being. The word contains extremely negative connotations and rightly so, as it causes the abuser to hanker this specific desire uncontrollably, until this want ultimately becomes a need and a harmful ‘crutch’ which the victim cannot live without.
An addiction initiates from something which an individual enjoys on an ideal basis and consumes in a harmless manner. This consumption could effortlessly become more frequent during a tough period, where the victim would turn to this ‘need’ for consolation or as a distraction from the problem.
